Robin of God
Original egg tempera painting with gilded 24k gold on cradled board
This is a miniature egg tempera painting of a robin with a gold halo and gold background. The robin represents the wild birds of the world that deserve our respect, kindness, and protection. The halo on the robin signifies that all animals are sacred.
The painting is done on 1/8″ masonite clayboard painted with gesso under the tempera. The gold leaf is applied over sanded and burnished clay bole.
The painting is done in the traditional Artist Trading Card (ATC) format of 2.5″x3.5″. ATCs are the size of a playing cards or baseball cards. Artists through the years get together and trade their ATC with other artists. ATC that are made to be sold are called Art Card Editions and Originals (ACEO).
The painting is extremely detailed with many layers of tempera. The edges and sides of the panel are painted in venetian red tempera.
The painting is mounted with a multi layer black mat in a black frame with multiple stepped in layers. This frame and mat provides a floating canvas effect with visibility of the entire artwork. The back of the frame is wired and ready to hang.
